During the 1970s, Carnation's acquisition of several European pet food companies expanded Friskies' global presence. In 1985, Nestlé acquired the Carnation Corporation, including Friskies Pet Food. In 2001, Nestlé further expanded its pet food portfolio by acquiring Ralston Purina, leading to the consolidation of all Nestlé-owned pet food brands under the management of Purina, including Friskies.
