Origin


Japanese breed originally developed to hunt birds and small game on mountainous terrain. In Japanese, the word “shiba” means “brushwood,” describing the breed’s hunting grounds, while “inu” means “dog.” The Shiba Inu is commonly referred to as the “Little Brushwood Dog.”
