Tips for Living Frisky
A day in the life
of Steve, the FRISKIES cat
So just what does Steve do all day? While his owners are managing the household or keeping the office running, he’s got his own demanding schedule. Here's a peek at his daily calendar.
7 a.m. Up and at 'em
Steve is up bright and early ready for his breakfast. And nothing satisfies his taste buds and energy needs like a healthy helping of FRISKIES. It has a great source of protein - complete with the essential amino acid, taurine. The purr-fect meal to start his busy day.
8:15 a.m. Clean-up time
After breakfast, it's time for a morning bath - cat style. Grooming for Steve is more than just a way to stay clean. His scratchy tongue helps him keep his coat from tangling, so its insulating ability stays strong all winter long. The pulling action stimulates water-proofing skin secretions, and the deposited saliva acts as a natural coolant in the summer heat.
10:30 a.m. An early siesta
It’s time for Steve’s cat nap. Steve sleeps almost 16 hours a day, but he remains alert most of this time, ready to pounce on any passing shadow.
1 p.m. Mid-day snack
A little late lunch hits the spot. Steve loves eating 13-16 small meals a day, each with about the same number of calories as a mouse! And his FRISKIES dry cat food is ideal, as it stays fresh all day.
3:30 p.m. Playtime with a purpose
Playing is more than a way to pass the time for Steve - it also keeps him mentally stimulated and in good physical shape. He loves playing with simple homemade toys, like aluminium-foil balls and plastic rings from milk jugs - they all make great playthings. But he also likes variety. So if you have a cat like Steve, shift around their toys so they always have a new diversion, but steer clear of small toys that can be swallowed, or those with loose or sharp parts. 6 p.m. Steve’s owners are home!
It’s time for some undivided attention and to reclaim them as his own! Weaving in and out and rubbing up against them so he can secrete his own personal scent. If you have a cat like Steve, this can be a good time to do a little training, while you have their full attention. Visit our Training Tips page for some helpful training advice.
7 p.m. Dinnertime
It’s been a very busy day for Steve - chasing his favourite toys, chasing his tail, guard duty and keeping the yard's inhabitants in line from the window sill. It all makes for one very hungry cat. But FRISKIES will satisfy his appetite. Plus with its protein, iron and phosphorus he’ll have the energy to keep chasing his tail for years to come.
9 p.m. Here comes the grooming
Steve does a lot to keep himself clean, but he also appreciates the daily combing and brushing from his owners. It helps keep his coat matt-free and looking its best. It also helps miminise the chance of those nasty hairballs. He also loves the after-brush FRISKIES snack - what a treat!
3 a.m. On the prowl
Crash! Everyone else is sound asleep, but Steve is on the prowl. Sound familiar? Cats in the wild are nocturnal animals, and it may take some time for your little night-time hunter to settle into your sleeping schedule. You can help this adjustment by gathering up your frisky feline's favourite playthings before you say goodnight, giving them fewer amusing late-night distractions.
